Microsoft Snapshot Viewer

With Snapshot from Microsoft you can email Space Pilot reports to your clients and they can view and print them without having Microsoft Access 97 or 2000 on their desktop.

Using Microsoft Access 97, with Service Release (SR) 1 or above, you can save a static picture of each Space Pilot report in an external file format (*.snp). Then, simply send the report(s) to your client in an email. Click Here for instructions to create Space Pilot report snapshots.

Your clients will need the Snapshot viewer, which they can download, free of charge, from this site. If your client has Microsoft Access 2000 the snapshot viewer is pre-installed.

We suggest that you include the following paragraph and link with all emails you send that include report snapshots.

"The Space Pilot report snapshot(s) attached to this email require Microsoft Snapshot Viewer, which can be downloaded, free of charge, by clicking on www.databaseapps.com/dba2snapshot.htm. If you have Microsoft Office Professional 2000 or Access 2000 you already have Snapshot Viewer which is automatically installed the first time you view a report snapshot."

Creating Space Pilot Report Snapshots

In order to e-mail reports to your client you need to save the output to a file on your hard drive first. You can save only one report at a time to file. To Save a report(s) to file and send an e-mail do the following:

  1. Click the "To file" on the "Reports by Project" Dialog Box within the Space Pilot application.
  2. Click on the Report you want to save.
  3. Select a report format for output of the report. Select either Snapshot or Rich Text Format. HTML, Excel and MS DOS Text formats will produce unpredictable results. Snapshot is a Microsoft Access viewer format that will create an exact image of your report with all formatting in place. Rich Text format (RTF) will produce a readable report but not all formatting will be retained. The benefit to using RTF is that your client will not have to download a plug-in to view the report. Any text editor such as Microsoft Word or Notepad can be used.
  4. Select the folder on your hard drive where you want to store the report.
  5. Name the report. It is recommended to inclue a project reference and date in the file name.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 above for each report you want to save to file. Open your e-mail program and address the e-mail to the appropriate recipient. Attach the "Report Files" you have prepared above and send the e-mail.
